Thank you to Catherine from Loughborough University for running the Santa Fun Run to raise awareness of Abbeyfield….. Catherine and her team will be shortly working with Abbeyfield on their Reading Allowed project. Catherine explains “Reading Allowed’ is a student run volunteering project set up within the Action section of Loughborough Students Union. The project seeks to ‘allow’ empowerment, entertainment and comfort through facilitating small and one-to-one reading groups for residents. Reading groups can be led by volunteers reading aloud to residents who otherwise may not be able to read to themselves. Alternatively, for those who can – we provide an attentive and friendly ear, supporting the individual with whatever they would like to read to us about! Whilst the project has its roots in reading aloud, Reading Allowed is very much a project of providing company and comfort to those affected by Dementia through much loved and new stories.’Read More
